Textile waste is an enormous problem for society, with around 1 garbage truck of used garments going to landfill every second. Within the textiles manufacturing industry, the problem is also significant, but perhaps less spoken about; each garment created generates 20-30% of its weight in cutting waste, hence equivalent of one truck of waste every 3-5 seconds. To help address this issue, The LYCRA Company is now providing performance fibres for warming and cooling applications, plus insulation products, made from 100% GRS certified textile waste with the same quality and performance as virgin counterparts but with a lower carbon footprint. The Outdoor and Active industries are invited to join us in learning more about these commercially available fibres and insulation products, and how, together, we can immediately begin to address the textile waste problem.

Everyone is aware of the incoming EU Green Deal, but the detail of the legislation is still not clear enough. Although it is based on the Circular Economy principles, especially when it comes to textile-to-textile recycling. How set up is Europe & Technology to cope with this? The other end of the scale is that there could not have any rPET from waste drinks bottles & qualms over the array of mixed materials used in garments. Brands HAVE to be responsible for both up & down chain actions. This panel gathers some of the best brains around garment recycling to spell out the future

In theory we all know the urgency to close material loops. But what is needed to make it happen in reality – here, next door and in our global material streams.
>Fabric cutting waste is the largest pre-consumer textile waste from the manufacturing of garments. Its is therefore essential to find ways to recycle this fabric waste. Functional garments have the particularity of using fabric composed of several synthetics (polyester, elastane, etc) mixed together. This type of fabric is extremely hard to recycle and new recycling technologies must be found. To address this issue, LTP and RITTEC have formed a partnership to test different types of fabric scraps. The objective is to find a scalable, high-quality solution to recycle mixed synthetic fabric, make new functional fabric from the recyclates, and enable manufacturing of zero textile waste garments.
> As the co-founder of numi.circular Andrea builds a user centric software solution for circular product take back to enable circular use cases like reuse, remanufacturing and recycling. As an experienced innovation project manager, system thinker, and ecosystem builder, she continually explores cooperation potentials and builds strong networks in the downstream value chain.
Come in, learn and discuss with our diverse panelists on these concrete examples, and more!

One of the biggest subjects in discussion over the summer were the challenges to the Higg Index Materials Sustainability Index for the consumer facing information that both Norrona plus H&M were proposing to use. Everyone heard about it, but not the detail. This panel will explore the subject. Charles will moderate the discussion between various stakeholders (inside & outside) the set-up to see what the problems are & how the industry can go forward; it will start with an overview of the situation so that the consumer interest in provenance can be achieved.
Panelists:
Marie-Louise Rosholm, Studio MLR
Since some years Marie-Louise has focused on no waste as the aspect of circularity, a future without bins. How can we design textiles with lower resource consumption in the recycling or even regenerative process, without comprising the function of the textile, the aesthetics and the touch. The exploration of these boundaries has taken her to research of fibres and combinations and more, which she will unfold during her talk.

Sustainability is the focus that has become core practice for Design & Development teams, but it has focused on reducing the impact of what we are making – should we not be reconsidering the bigger question of the amount that is made? This panel will follow on from the lines of thought brought up in the earlier Consumption presentation by the moderator.
